I often find myself referring to beachy destinations as "sun-soaked," but there's simply no better way to describe Malta — these islands get a whole 300 days of sunshine every year. That's even more than you, Los Angeles!

While most visitors enjoy those rays along its glowy blue waters and crumbling white cliffs, the Maltese archipelago has more to offer than just seaside relaxation. Its position between other Mediterranean hubs has made it a little bit Italian, a little bit Greek, a little bit Arab, and still entirely unique. It's home to some of the oldest manmade structures on earth, and a Cathedral decorated by a Baroque legend fleeing a murder charge. It's lucky that Malta is so walkable, because you're going to want to peer around every corner.

Wherever you decide to explore, don't limit yourself to the big island — the second-largest island of Gozo is much less populated and much more natural, so it's the perfect place to slip into those coastal bluffs and disappear for a while :-)
