My husband and I road tripped it from Las Vegas and across Arizona, driving more than 1000 miles within a week. We of course had the Grand Canyon as a stop and had also booked an airplane tour, which we thoroughly enjoyed and could not believe the views. We had an unfortunate encounter with a stone hitting our windshield on the way there, so after the airplane tour we decided we needed to get it repaired before the crack spread further. We agreed we would come back in a couple days to hike the trails. Little did we know that the day that we returned, the Grand Canyon would get a generous dumping of snow! We were super underprepared for the weather, but made the best of it. None of the stores were prepared either - no snow brushes or winter outerwear. I ended up buying a pair of junior soccer gloves just to keep my fingers from freezing! It was a little cold, snowy and foggy, but definitely a worth it and unique experience seeing the Grand Canyon covered in snow! And we didn't have to endure the typical crowds, as many people decided to forego their visit that day. Sometimes things happen for a reason.
