In the summer of 2025, we embarked on a road trip from Florence, Italy, to Rovinj, Croatia, with the intention of spending two nights there. However, a last-minute hotel cancellation in Rovinj left us stranded, as all nearby accommodations were either sold out or exorbitantly priced. After a night at an overpriced hotel in Rovinj, we decided to abandon our plans and head east. Six hours later, we crossed into Serbia, marking my 100th country visited. The return journey was a harrowing experience, as we endured a grueling five-hour border crossing amidst a sea of summer vacationers returning home. We almost missed our flight departing from LJU back to JFK. Despite the challenges, we were captivated by Belgrade’s rich history and vibrant art scene. Our culinary adventure culminated in an unforgettable experience with the city’s renowned national dish, ćevapi!
