Tahiti's beaches are world-famous (hello, black sand), but they're only the tip of the iceberg. Or the tip of the volcano, in this case.
Volcanic islands like Tahiti always have the best scenery. That's just an immutable fact of the universe, and even a few minutes on a Tahitian trail is enough to prove it. We're big fans of the views atop Mont Aorai, but that's kind of a tough climb, so less experienced hikers might want to start with the waterfalls in Fautaua Valley.
And if you're just here for the beaches (perfectly respectable!), hop on the ferry to smaller Moʻorea for the most relaxing shores.
