Picture a golden sandy cove, hugged by pristine rainforests within a tight-knit community of laid-back locals and sociable stray dogs—welcome to Drake’s Bay.

Here, life moves at the same pace as one of these guys...sloooow. The Internet connection can be patchy and there isn't an ATM in town. But trust us, technology will be the last thing on your mind when you're snorkelling with turtles or glimpsing a humpback whale.

As you can imagine, reaching this remote spot can be a little tricky. If you're on a budget, you can take a 6-hour bus from San José to Sierpe for around £15, then catch a taxi boat for around £20. Otherwise, you can also fly for around £115 one-way.
