When visiting Rwanda, every morning starts with local coffee. It’s sweet and fruity with a silky finish, and the country’s lush, rolling green hills grow thousands of metric tons of the stuff every year. Get your cup at Question Café, and you'll even be supporting female farmers in the area.

Once you're sufficiently caffeinated, it's time to put that energy to good use. Volcanoes National Park is worth a visit just for the scenery, but it's also where you'll be making your new best friends: hundreds of mountain gorillas.

Some folks get lucky and spot a few while hiking through the cloud forest by themselves, but the only surefire way to find the apes is by joining a gorilla trek with a trained guide. These treks are heavily regulated and you'll need to get your paperwork in order, but be patient, and you might find yourself nose-to-nose with a silverback gorilla.

If your hands start to shake, you can always blame it on the coffee :-)

Jack's take

We haven't been seeing too many great fares to Africa lately, but we caught KLM and a few other pals dropping this sweet deal to Rwanda. While the country might have a dark history, these days it's often ranked as one of the safest places on the continent.
