Sure, the clocks "fall back" this weekend, but we'd rather take a switch of the seasons. Wouldn't you?Â
November's the sweet spot here. It's spring in the Southern Hemisphere, and you can't find a better time to trek. The summer tourists have yet to swarm the trails of Torres del Paine and Los Glaciares National Park.
Prices for accommodation are more affordable than the true summer months, and December's fierce gusts of wind haven't really kicked into overdrive yet.Â
And while Santa Cruz de la Sierra might not be a bucket-list contender, it's a decent entry point into Bolivia and beyond. In case you didn't know, Viru Viru International Airport actually handles most long-haul, international flights compared to the capital, La Paz.
Why? Because La Paz's high-altitude runway imposes strict weight and performance limits on heavy aircrafts.Â
All that to say, fly into Santa Cruz, and a quick domestic hop will take you where you want to go.Â
Jack's take
South America under $600 RT is always a win. And while Buenos Aires & Santiago show up every now and then, Bolivia is a nice surprise.
