Frankfurt is one of those central German cities with train connections all over Europe, so it's the perfect starting point for a good old-fashioned Eurotrip. But it's also worth sticking around, and not just for the sausages!

Your first stop should be the Museumsufer, a little district of world-class museums along the banks of the river Main. It should also be your second stop, and probably your third and fourth, too - there are almost 40 museums in this neighborhood alone. The famous Städel art gallery is the headliner, but the rest are pretty dang cool as well.

Of course, all that learning can wear a person out, but Frankfurt's iconic apfelwein makes for a terrific pick-me-up.
