Lebanon has been on our bucket list for a bit now, so every time Transavia adds more cheap non-stop routes, we're ready to spread the news!

Visiting Beirut will not be your average weekend getaway, though. Keep an eye on government advice and the news to make sure you’re aware of the situation before you go.

We've listed a few tips to be a responsible tourist in Lebanon, if you're not sure where to start:

  • You may want to hire a guide when you first arrive. We'd suggest avoiding booking with big organised tours, and instead try to find a local guide. This will give you a unique, personal perspective on Beirut's beauty, as well as some tips for your trip, all while supporting the local communities.
  • Even if you're not a linguist, put some effort in learning some basic Arabic words, and interact with the locals. You’ll get more out of your experience, and you may be able to find that guide through word-of-mouth.
  • When going out for food, avoid theĀ international chains by pickingĀ local restaurantsĀ and bakeries instead. For accommodation, chooseĀ guest housesĀ instead of hotels.Ā This way, you get to stay inĀ locals’ homes, eatĀ their traditional food, andĀ shareĀ their stories.
  • Donate to local NGOs to help preserve the Lebanese culture and environment.

BTW, there are still some tips under €200 rtn over the winter, if skiing around Roman ruins tickles your fancy :-)
