Uzbekistan
Right in the heart of the Great Silk Road, the country brims with rich history and culture. With its most recognisable Islamic architecture, you may have spotted Khiva's turquoise domes and Samarkand's glittering madrasas in whichever central-Asian touristy guide.
Luckily for you, though, the country is still really underrated, meaning you'll have the sparkling ancient sites, the lush valleys, and yurt camps aaaaall for yourself.
Uzbekistan is rich in Soviet history, and—inevitably—of striking examples of Brutalist architecture. USSR aficionados shouldn't miss the chance of spending a few nights at Hotel Uzbekistan in Tashkent.
The best part of all? Before delving into Uzbekistan's gems, you get to spend a few extra days in Riga's stunning Old Town, if you feel like it :-)
*If you're not sure what we're talking about here, this is another open-jaw style trip. Basically, this means you’ll first fly to Latvia, then hop on a plane to Tashkent, and finally fly straight back home to the UK. Where's the catch? You'll have to separately book a one-way flight to Riga. But don't panic, we'll explain everything in the Finding Trips section below.
