Vilnius in $420s-$440s RT

The worst thing about living in the US is the total lack of universal healthcare castles. We're talking about those big fairy-tale castles, the ones that were built centuries ago and are probably haunted now.

Luckily, Vilnius is here to pick up the slack.

We'll begin with Gediminas Tower, a great starter castle. It's over 600 years old and offers an incredible view of old town Vilnius from the top. Some people have even reported seeing the ghost of Duke Gediminas himself wandering the tower at night, making it a perfect spooky stop for a Halloween trip.

But real castle aficionados should head outside the city to Trakai Island. Connected to the mainland by a single wooden bridge, the entire island is covered by a huge red fortress, originally built almost 800 years ago. It's one of the most strikingly gorgeous castles in Europe, like something out of a fairy tale.

And yes, the Trakai Island castle is also haunted, in case you were wondering :-)
