With Toronto currently in the midst of winter flurries, it might be hard to imagine this place in the summertime. So let me paint you a picture...

It's a breezy June day, and you're onboard the Centre Island ferry. Sunlight glints off the waters of Lake Ontario as the city skyline shrinks behind you. The ferry arrives, and you beeline to grab your rental bike.

You spend the next few hours gliding through the lush greenery and along boardwalks, spotting herons and turtles. You chain up your bike near the beach, and dig your toes into the soft warm sand. The lake goes on for miles, so vast it might as well be the ocean.

You're starting to understand why those island homes have to be sold on a lottery system. They're basically in paradise — just across the water from Canada's most bustling city, but far enough to feel worlds away :-)
