It's coming up roses (and a few thousand other flowers!)

Over winter, the lush 20-degree temps usher in a wave of perennials in Taiwan. To see them, take a high-speed train to Taichung, where you'll find crowds flocking to the city's 'back garden' for the Flower Carpet Festival from November. 

But if that's not quite filled your cup vase, the Lavender Forest is close by, with a number of designed gardens and routes you can stroll through while gathering inspo for your spring Pinterest board at home. 

For an option closer to Taipei City, the Shilin Chrysanthemum Festival has animal-themed flower arrangements. Think the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, but with florals. 

Speaking of tea, with all the walking and flowery aromas, you might be a bit thirsty for something sweet. Don't worry, I know a place. Birthplace of boba, anyone?
