Here's what I love about travelling to Italy in the winter…
While the summer brings hordes of tourists to the tiny colourful alleys across the country, in the winter you get to stroll around the most touristy sights with virtually no crowds.
A couple of years ago, I brought my best friend to Rome at the beginning of December. It was such a lovely sunny weekend — temperatures reached the lower 20 degrees, and no tourist queues were in sight.
The Pantheon, the Vatican, Villa Medici and even Villa Borghese — all tickets reserved a day earlier and ticked off our bucket list without a hitch.
Since then, the winter months have become my very favourite moment to embrace la dolce vita. And with flights so cheap, why shouldn't you give it a try, too? :-)
BTW, if you get bored with city life, you can always rent a car and go check out this nymph's garden lost in a lush park — bonus points if you reach it in time to see the autumn hues, or the early spring blossoms :-)
