There are big waves, then there are Nazaré waves...

Nazaré is a small town around 1.5hrs north of Lisbon, and is world-famous for the unbelievably high waves that arrive at its Praia do Norte beach during winter — we're talking over 20 meters tall! 

Of course, you'd have to be incredibly gutsy to take those bad boys on. Sooooo we'd suggest keeping your feet firmly on solid ground, and instead cheer on the pros with a cup of tea and some warm sonhos.
