Algeria

Time is ticking to check this one off your bucket list before the rest of the world catches on!
Despite being the largest country in Africa, Algeria has often flown under most tourists radar compared to its more visited neighbours like Morocco and Tunisia.
But, things are starting to change. Their once notoriously complicated visa application process is being updated. Now, visitors who join an organised tour where 70% of their time is spent in the southern Sahara regions like Djanet and Tamanrasset, can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival.
And only last month, Condé Nast named the country as one of their top African destinations to visit in 2026.
Realistically, the country has around 1.5 million square kilometres of desert, so we're not saying it's suddenly gonna become overrun with selfie-stick-waving bloggers. Just that if you want to get in first, now's your chance.
P.S. Want to visit without a southern Sahara tour? You can find some helpful info on how to apply for a tourist visa on the Algerian Consolute Website.
