Bari, Italy in $560s-$640s RT
We know you guys have seen plenty of flights to Italy lately, but Bari is one of those special little hidden gems that's always worth a send.
Besides, it has one thing that no other city can boast: the skeletal remains of one St. Nicholas of Myra, aka Santa Claus.
Unfortunately, there aren't any historical records of his cheeks like roses, his nose like a cherry, or if he shook when he laughed like a bowl full of jelly. But we do know that St. Nicholas lived in Turkey in the 3rd century. We also know his bones were stolen by Italian sailors, who laid them to rest in the Basilica San Nicola right here in Bari.
And here's the weird part. When he was first buried in Turkey, his tomb was said to weep a sweet-smelling cure-all called the Manna of St. Nicholas. And when his body was moved to Bari, the exact same liquid started to drip from his new tomb.
You can still buy little glass vials of manna from the Basilica, in case you're looking for some stocking stuffers :-)
