Who would have guessed that Europe's most brightly colored capital was here in the Balkans?

It's true! Over the past couple of decades, Tirana has seen a major effort to transform the drab concrete remnants of Communist-era Albania with colorful new facades, including massive murals designed by local artists. 

Even the Pyramid of Tirana, once a monument to dictator Enver Hoxha, has been reborn as a cultural center and public park. And these bunkers-turned-art museums make an enduring testament to the ways that art can change and heal a community :-)
