Zurich
at $475 RT
Zurich has kind of an uptight reputation these days, but it was the birthplace of one of history's weirdest art movements—Dadaism.
It all started at a café called the Cabaret Voltaire, where artists gathered from all over Europe during World War I. Traumatized by the devastation the war brought to their homes, they created Dadaism as a nonsensical, anti-establishment response to the "rationality" of modern capitalism and nationalism.
Although the Cabaret Voltaire fell into disrepair in the early 20th century, it was revived in 2004 by a group of neo-Dadaist squatters. You can check out the Dada Library on the second floor to learn more about the movement, or explore the Dada collection at the Kunsthaus art museum :-)
