Santa Marta, Colombia in €1010s-€1140s rtn

I close my eyes and I’m transported back. I feel the warm evening breeze, as I sway to and fro in a yellow woven hammock to the gentle chords of an acoustic guitar. 

There’s a fleeting power cut in my hotel garden and with only a dwindling fire and a string of dim, solar-powered fairy lights to illuminate my surroundings, all of my senses become supercharged. The smell of singed, oaky embers fills my nose, and the sweet mango daiquiri I’d been sipping on tasted like sunshine in a glass.

I knew in that moment this was a memory to hold on to.

It’s been over two years since I trekked through the overgrown trails of Tayrona National Park, splashed in waterfall lagoons and spied wild monkeys swinging overhead, but nothing quite compares to those evenings in Minca.
