Is there a better Halloween vacation than Romania? Dramatic baroque architecture peeking through the fog, the Dâmbovița river lined with orange foliage... and oh yeah, that big ol' Dracula castle!

Okay, so technically Bran's connection to Dracula is tenuous at best, but they do put on a pretty popping Halloween affair. And celebrating the spooky season in a medieval Transylvanian castle is brag-worthy with or without the bloodsuckers.

If you're somehow still hungry for horror after that, how about a journey through a forest that looks straight out of a Robert Eggers movie?

Of course, you don't have to cash in on the scary stuff — these dates run all the way through April, i.e. just in time for your tranquil countryside getaway. Ideal if you want to trade doom and gloom for broth and stew :-)
