Happy Bat Appreciation Week, everyone! Yes, it's a real thing; look it up.

As you stroll through the parks and botanical gardens of Brisbane, keep an eye out for colonies of flying foxes. Sure, a bat with a 3-ft wingspan might seem a little unsettling, but just look at that face! It's a puppy with wings, really.

You'll find plenty of flying foxes on a day trip to Tamborine Mountain, along with wallabies, parrots, tree frogs, and some pretty spectacular scenery. Don't forget to stop by the glowworm caves for a tour before you head back to the city, trust me.

And don't worry if bats give you the creeps—Brisbane has other furry friends to visit :-)
