Safe space to confess? Personally, I'm not really a big fan of Venice. 

Don't get me wrong, with dreamlike gondolas drifting down its canals and architectural masterpieces at every turn, the floating city is incredibly beautiful. 

But if there’s one thing that throws a dampener on your upcoming trip to Italy, it’s the slew of news articles about Venice and its battle with floods. I’m not speaking about the banks of the lagoon bursting like clockwork just in time for the sirens to signify another cycle of Acqua Alta.

No, I’m talking about the rising tide of travelers. With over 30 million visitors pouring into Piazza San Marco each year, Venice continues to be rocked by a wave of overtourism despite its efforts to unclog its canals.

Ask any true Venetian and they will tell you “Venezia è una città che appartiene al mare” — Venice is a city that belongs to the sea.

But Vicenza? It’s a city where the floods never quite reach...
