Plan on visiting Sigiriya (Lion Rock)? Here are my top tips…

1) Don't miss climbing Pidurangala Rock. It's a fraction of the cost to climb and offers you one of the best views of Sigiriya set against a lush carpet of greenery. 

2) Arrive early. The hiking trails get pretty full by midday, so if you don't like the sound of waiting in a human traffic jam mid-way up, it's best to get in there first.

3) Bring cash. You'll need it to pay for most of the entrances and cafés in the area, and there aren't any ATMs nearby.

Bonus: Watch out for the macaques—again!
