Forget Songkran, South Korea has its own way to stay cool in the summer...

Every year, the (usually peaceful) coastal city of Boryeong becomes the battleground for one of the largest and messiest mud fights in the world.

And when you're not dodging flying handfuls of sludgy earth, you can recline in mud baths, try your hand at mud painting and even a spot of mud wrestling. 

According to the organisers, the local dirt is chock-full of anti-ageing and detoxifying minerals. So in a way, it's kinda like a less relaxing, but much cheaper spa trip :-)
