Let's mix things up a bit. You already know Paris: glittering tower, best cheese in the world, croissants for days... need I go on?

Now, let me paint you a picture of something only a mini trip away. You hop in a car/shuttle/bus/train and head west. Allllllll the way west, until you reach the coast. And then go a little bit further. 

This monastery jutting out of the ocean is a UNESCO-protected world heritage site. It's usually chock-full of day-trippers, but book early to score a room actually on-island, and get the place to yourself once 7pm hits. 

Trust me, wandering the narrow alleyways of this island as dusk falls feels nothing short of magical. 

Fun fact: the island's speciality is salted caramel made from Normandy's rich, salted butter. Served on crêpes, ice cream, even by itself with a spoon... will power, schmillpwer, amirite?
