Okay, maybe it's not the holiday most of you had in mind...and that's before we've even mentioned the skeletal remains of an infamously torturous prison. But we promise, the 38 islands that make up Coiba National Park are definitely somewhere you don't want to miss.

Tucked away from mainland Panama, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is positively overflowing with biodiversity. Reptiles, birds, monkeys, dolphins, whales, rays, turtles—you name it, these islands have got it!

To visit, you'll need to head towards Santa Catalina, where most of the boat trips depart from, and book onto an organised tour. And don't forget to bring $20 in cash to pay for the park permit.
