One underrated thing about non-stop flights: No layovers means there's no need to buy terrible airport food.

Instead of spending an arm and a leg at the Buffalo Wild Wings at JFK Terminal Four, you can fly straight to London and fill your rumbling stomach at a West End bagel shop. Or the very-crowded-but-still-worth-visiting Borough Market. Or any of the many, many terrific pubs and restaurants in Crouch End, up in North London.

Sure, British food has its naysayers. But that just makes it all the more underrated! And we'll take fresh fish and chips over a soggy sandwich from Hudson News any day :-)
