Let's talk churches, Tampa.

Historic cathedrals are a dime a dozen in Europe, it's true. But Lisbon has a few extra special cool ones that stand out from your typical houses of worship.

First up is Santíssima Trindade Church out in the suburbs. It's unique, totally modern, and took 13 years to build because the architect kept running into conflicts with the local priest. Can't argue with the results, though!

Next is the Church of Sagrado Coração, a rare example of a church built in the brutalist style. Despite being all concrete and hard edges, the inside still feels surprisingly gentle and harmonious. Photographers should definitely make two visits here: one during the day, and one at night to see how the light changes the space.

Finally, we have the Church of St. Dominic, your classic old-school medieval cathedral—or so it seems from the outside, anyway. Step through the doors, and you'll see the massive scorch marks covering the walls around the altar, a remnant of a fire in 1959. Instead of being repaired, the burn marks were left to remind visitors of life's impermanence.
