Croatia & the Balkans

We've got some rare spots in this little bundle, so let's make your acquaintance:
Sarajevo's drenched with a diverse range of history. East meets west in this part of the world, so you can admire both European-style cathedrals and mosaic-covered mosques. Once you've wandered every cobblestone alley and taken in every historic site, head to Mostar. This riverside town looks straight out of a fairytale.
Skopje offers a mix of the new with the old. Around town, you can spot centuries-old Ottoman structures next to funky postmodern architecture. It's got a quirky bent to it, with kitschy art and sculptures around every corner.
Belgrade feels like several cities in one. Old Soviet-era buildings that were abandoned now host late night DJ sets. Traditional cafés stand as a remnant of Ottoman culture. Definitely take a stroll through Skadarlija, a bohemian neighborhood that once played host to the local artists.
And if none of those spots tickle your fancy, there's always that ridiculously stunning Croatian coastline :-)
