Bengaluru, India in $580s-$840s RT

You might know this city as Bangalore! That's the Anglicized name and it's no longer in official use, but it's still the most recognizable title for the third-largest city in India.

This is the nation's tech hub — modern, cosmopolitan, and diverse. It's where hipster bars meet grandiose palaces. 

While it tends to get overshadowed by the more famous tourist destinations, there's a case to make for Bengaluru being a great "starter" city for first-time visitors to India. Folks here have a reputation for being friendly, and English is widely spoken. There are plenty of killer views in the area, but the city itself is a place you experience by walking around and chatting with locals.

And of course, by indulging in the local love of breakfast :-)
