When you think of Barcelona, Gaudí and his distinctly gothic yet whimsical architecture are one of the first things you likely picture.

But in case you find the ever-flowing crowds of the Sagrada Família a tad overwhelming, we've got the perfect alternative: Casa Vicens!

Tucked away within a quiet side street of the artsy Gràcia neighbourhood, this was one of Gaudí's first official projects.

And boy, did he make a statement. Packed with geometric tiles, a spectrum of vivid colours, and nature-inspired motifs, this feels more like a kaleidoscope fun-house than an actual home.

You do need to book your tickets in advance since there is limited capacity, but this keeps the crowds at bay and allows you to have a much more peaceful Gaudi experience :-)
