Algiers is a terrific city for sightseeing, but adventure awaits you just outside its borders.

Picture yourself in the mighty Sahara Desert, surrounded by an endless expanse of sand and sun. Someone points to the nearby rock formation, and you see it—prehistoric art, carved and painted into the stone some 10,000 years ago, yet still perfectly preserved.

At night, you camp out under a vast, starry sky, relaxing and listening to the Tuareg guitar stylings of your guides. It's been a couple of days since you left the desert oasis of Djanet, your last brush with civilization, and it's starting to feel like you could stay out here forever.
