Tromsø is the new Barcelona.

And no, in case you're wondering, that's not exactly a positive thing.

So, here are a couple of tips on how to have a great visit without contributing to the region's overtourism:

• Instead of flocking to the city and doing touristy day-trips, consider visiting some of the lesser-known gems around the area, such as the Lyngen Alps.
• Respect the allemannsretten before it's gone — if you're camping or travelling in a VR, always set up camp at least 150 meters from the nearest house or cabin, and avoid pitching your tent/parking in graveyards, private gardens, or on cultivated land.
• Take all your rubbish with you, and don't overfill public garbage bins.
• Respect the reindeers!
• Look out for locally owned and ethical accommodations, restaurants, and shops, instead of giving your money to big chains or large hotels.
