Let's get artsy

One of the most famous sights in São Paulo is Beco do Batman, so we'll start there. Every square inch of this alleyway is covered in murals, starting from a single graffitied Batman in the 1980s. Since then, it's been an ever-changing slideshow of local art.

Meanwhile at the museums, you can stop by the city's main art hub, but there's more unusual options too. Check out artwork made by inmates, a whole museum dedicated to tattoos, and even an easy-to-miss collection of vintage puppets.

If your artistic interests tend towards costumes and parade floats, you'll be pleased to know these dates also cover Carnival. Rio de Janeiro (within a day's drive) has the most famous celebration, but São Paulo has its own party too :-)
