Guess what's hiding beneath Ponta Delgada's waves...

Anyone guess an enormous pod of playful 50ft sperm whales? And they're not even the only ones!

During the spring months, you can spot (big breath in): blue whales, minke whales, fin whales, pilot whales, humpback whales, orcas annnnd about 7 varieties of dolphins.

The southern coast of Sao Miguel island is one of the best places to see them, and you'll find boat tours leaving from Ponta Delgada harbour heading there every day.

Tours usually start at around €60, although considering your chances of a sighting are seriously high, we don't mind the price :-)
