Budapest at $480s-$530s RT from Chicago/Boston

Drinking at a "ruin bar" might not sound like a trendy pastime, but in Budapest they do things a little differently!

It's a tradition from the city's Jewish Quarter, where residents started repurposing derelict buildings into quirky nightlife spots. Nowadays, ruin bars are some of the hippest spots in Budapest — and it's not hard to see why. You can find ambience ranging from neon lights and disco balls, to industrial pipes and sheet metal, to looking like an antique shop exploded all over the walls (and frequently all at the same bar!)

While each spot has its own aesthetic and culture, you can always expect a laidback atmosphere and a solid range of drink options. The most famous is Szimpla Kert, where the walls are basically an I Spy book. For something a little more local, try EXTRA Brunch Bar for their identifiable red lighting and top notch eats.
